Glenn James

Glenn has seven years worth of experience researching interviews and then writing the scripts for presenters fronting shows live on radio.  His experience covers every conceivable subject, and he has been tailoring specific speeches since 2002.  He was formerly also an actor with the BMI Repertory Theatre Company, and the company of the Crescent Theatre in Birmingham, and has never lost his love of entertaining a live audience.  This has translated across naturally into writing speeches for individuals, for specific occasions, and calls upon his solid professional experience, skills as a wordsmith, and mischievous wit and sense of fun.

Glenn relishes the chance to meet people and learn about them, to laugh with them and hear their stories about life, and translate this into a speech which has the really authentic taste of their character.  He is an observant artist with a keen eye for detail, and a natural love of words which comes across playfully and warmly in his work.

Glenn was born in Birmingham, and studied Art at the old Bournville Art College, Sutton College and Wolverhampton University, graduating with a HND in Graphic Design in 1993.

After graduating from University and spending a period freelance, Glenn followed up a passion for writing by undertaking a course in Radio Broadcasting, and became involved with Radio WM/WCRT Radio in Wolverhampton.  Beginning as a volunteer he went on to become a producer in his own right.  He taught radio techniques at Wolverhampton College, and went on to manage the studio for BBC Radio WM.

Glenn is a practiced and experienced on-air journalist and producer, and in his time has interviewed celebrities such as Jeremy Isaacs, Roy Wood, Carol Decker (of Tau Pau), George Melly, the late Anthony Ainley, Elizabeth Sladen and Kate O’Mara, as well as Government Ministers, Councillors and the Deputy Jamaican High Commissioner.  Mr James recorded the proclamation of Wolverhampton's City Status for broadcasting on the BBC, oversaw much of the initial publicity for the charity Jamaica 2000, and was the first UK journalist to obtain an interview with the marketing manager of EMI, upon the launch of the 'Beetles at the BBC' album.

Two of Glenn's original plays were broadcast on BBC Radio WM.  One of them was a Christmas Ghost Story for the Millennium, titled 'Shadowfell', and the play has been repeated by WCRT at Christmas time annually ever since.  Glenn has contributed to 'The Today Programme' and 'Here and Now' on Radio 4, and was a stringer relaying the results from three Wolverhampton wards during the 2001 General Election.

He personally originated two series' of his own for the WCRT independent licence bids, and was Producer/Scriptwriter for both shows in the late 1990's.  These shows were respectively 'Absolutely Fatuous', an original comedy series, and 'Cold Tea and Biros', a writers' forum show.   Both shows were subject to repeats for a couple of years.

He illustrated the best selling 'Ghosts, Murders and Scandals' by Anne Bradford, contributing several stories of his own, and is a contributor to the dark fantasy magazines 'Murky Depths' and 'Trespass'.  He originated the character of Skaler, the New Romantic Vampire, and is working on developing a series of novels about the character.

He won the caption writing competition of Birmingham Comedy Festival in its inaugural year, and was presented with a prize for the Aylecon Short Story Writing competition by Paul Cornell, Script Editor of Doctor Who.

Whilst working on his novel he has been a Verbatim Reporter of Criminal Law, at the court centres of Birmingham, Worcester, Hereford, Bristol, and on one occasion the Old Bailey.  He has also worked as a Courtroom Assistant, representing KrollOnTrack, the international authority on the forensic recovery of electronic evidence, covering a number of high profile trials.   A writer of short stories, film reviews, and articles, he is a contributor to the American Online News sites 'Newsblaze', and 'The Student Operated Press'.  He is currently engaged in the second draft of his first Skaler novel.
